Is Your Home Country Depressing You?

We know the world is in turmoil… unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to change no matter what our ‘leaders’ do. Financial troubles, refugees seeking asylum, ‘Polar Vortex’s’ grinding major cities to a halt… the world can be a difficult place to live!

This particular winter season has been a rough one for many folks, especially in North America. With many areas of the US dealing with weather and temperatures completely out of the norm, further north towards Canada the snow and temperatures have been breaking records continually (think -50°C with the wind-chill). And although yes, we know it’s winter and yes, that means snow and cold for many, the short, dark days paired with bone-chilling temps can put a huge percentage of people in the doldrums.

The thing is… for as many as 20% of the population, these doldrums are debilitating and can seriously affect everyday life. We’re referring, of course, to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a very real ailment that most sufferers will start feeling in November and start coming out of in April.

Although SAD isn’t brought on by cold weather or a particular amount of snowfall, these can certainly exacerbate the feelings already brought on by this illness. What SAD is brought on by is the lack of daylight that most of North America experiences during the winter months. Yes, there are remedies available such as light therapy, psychotherapy and in some cases medication, but these methods can be costly, time-consuming and they’re not a cure…

The best treatment to beat SAD is to increase your exposure to sunlight. And, as helpful as light therapy is in this respect, it doesn’t compare to the real thing – pure, daylong sunshine. The exact kind you can find in Latin America!

Moving your life, even just over the North American winter months, to Latin America may seem like a drastic treatment, but it’s actually a very common transition. Especially because if you have been diagnosed with SAD at a young age, it’s almost a guarantee that it will continue to get worse as you age.

Owning your own piece of sunny paradise is an easy, exciting and affordable adventure – especially when you get the ball rolling with the help of Where International. Our Discovery Weekends are designed to show you what ‘real’ life is like in this part of the world, and our developer partners are experienced and trustworthy. We’ll work with you to ensure they show you exactly what fits in your budget… there’s no sales pressure or expectations.

So why put yourself through another dreary winter? Visit one of our developers on a Discovery Weekend and maybe even discover a whole new you…

We’re taught from an early age to accept that we can’t have everything we want… that we have to share or compromise. Thankfully, now that you’re an adult, and you’re considering a property purchase abroad, these ‘rules’ don’t apply.
All your ducks are in a row… you bought a corner lot, with spectacular ocean views in a private community.
We frequently refer to Costa Rica’s southern Nicoya Peninsula as a ‘hidden gem’. Naturally, those already owning and/or living in this tropical oasis would prefer it stays that way…

Where International exists to recommend a variety of International real estate options. Where International requires developers to meet stringent criteria before offering them to you. Conversely, any inspections we conduct on projects or individuals should not be misinterpreted as a guarantee by Where International. International real estate is not immune to the ups and downs that occur in North American real estate; property values are never guaranteed to increase.

Where International is not accountable for the orchestration or deliverance of Discovery Weekends. We provide them to you on behalf of our developer partners. We recommend that you purchase travel insurance, as you would with any trip out of your home country. In addition, we advise you complete your own due diligence, purchase title insurance and always use a local attorney to assist with all transactions. In the event that a reader purchases a property from a recommended developer, Where International receives a sum from the developer.
