Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula - The Real Deal
May 03, 2013
When you think of purchasing a retirement or vacation home, Costa Rica may be on your list, but have you put it on the back-burner?
No doubt about it… it’s easily reached from both the US and Canada (less then 3 hours from Miami, 5 hours from Toronto), the weather is spectacular all the time and healthcare is affordable and top-notch. But somehow, there’s a fallacy out there that Costa Rica is unattainable for the ‘regular Joe’, that property prices are too expensive, thanks to it’s popularity in the past 10 years. Although this is true in certain areas of the country, it’s not the case everywhere…
Quaint Towns and a Variety of Beaches
When you begin your trip to Costa Rica’s Southern Nicoya Peninsula, you’ll understand why getting there is half the fun… breath-taking scenery of deep valleys and tall mountains, lush farmer’s fields and new, smooth highways. And, when you book a Discovery Weekend, our developer team from Pacific Blue will pick you up right at San Jose’s International airport, making it that much more enjoyable!
Playa Tambor is definitely a gem in Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. It’s off the beaten track, so you don’t have to worry about dealing with hoards of tourists or spring break crowds. People that live and visit this area of Costa Rica are here because they want to be, which makes for an incredible community of diverse, friendly and welcoming locals, tourists and expats.
But don’t misconstrue the fact that just because it’s not a major ‘tourist centre’, means it has nothing happening. Quite the contrary… within a 20-minute drive you have a variety of ‘happening’ places you can visit. Large, upscale resorts offering a plethora of amenities (golf, tennis, yoga, spa services), charming villages with fabulous restaurants fitting every budget and every palate, plenty of artisan shops and of course grocery stores, banks, auto mechanics and butchers.
And we’d be remiss to not mention the variety of beaches available in the Playa Tambor area! If you want a gentle, private beach, Playa Tambor is perfect with its hard-packed sand, lack of people and thanks to the Bahia Ballena (Whale Bay), it’s calm waters. Looking for perfect surfing waves? Just outside of the bay, and all the way around the peninsula you will find spectacular beaches ideal for surfing along with the aforementioned villages for when you need a break from the sun and sand.
A Little Piece of Heaven with a Small Price Tag
Now, you may be wondering how, with such incredible amenities and fun destinations, there could still possibly be affordable real estate in this area of Costa Rica? That’s easy… because it’s not your run-of-the-mill tourist destination. Aside from (literally) a couple of resorts, it doesn’t have tons of large chain hotels, there are no skyscrapers or condo buildings and you won’t find a Wal-Mart, McDonalds or other big-brand type stores or restaurants. This keeps real estate prices at a decent level… the market isn’t getting saturated with development, which subsequently drives prices through the roof.
Aside from being reasonably priced, the Pacific Blue development in Playa Tambor offers a variety of properties (at different price points) to choose from, so you never have to feel restricted. Want to be within walking distance to the beach? No problem! Want an ocean view or a mountain view? Done! Like the idea of being able to walk to a plenty of amenities? Pacific Blue can give you that! They really do have something that can appease every preference and price point.
It’s easy to find people or companies that will try to sell or give you a ‘deal’. But consider what constitutes a deal in your books… it’s different for everyone, and although it’s important to know when you’re not getting a good deal, price is only part of the equation.
Mike and Judy with Pacific Blue in Playa Tambor would be pleased to show you around their area, give you a tour of the various developments and introduce you to everyone responsible for building your future neighborhood!
