Activities in Tambor, Costa Rica

The Southern Nicoya Peninsula and the Tambor Region offer a plethora of activities for adventure-seekers and relaxation seekers alike. Lets have a look at some of the options available to you when visiting this beautiful region:

Fishing

Are you or your travel companion(s) a fishing fanatic? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Tambor boasts world-class fishing for both the novice and expert fisherman (or woman!) on any budget. You have the option of being taken out by a professional operator to some of the best sites in either the Gulf of Nicoya or the Pacific Ocean. If you’re on a budget, why not experience a fishing tour on a ‘panga’ – a traditional Costa Rican fishing boat.

Boating

If boating, or yachting, is more your speed, take a pit stop in the bay of Tambor. Not only is it a safe location to anchor, it’s a refreshing reprieve from the busy hustle-bustle of other marinas in Costa Rica. It’s also a convenient, relaxing location to fill up with gas, water and snacks.

Golfing

The Tambor region has something for everyone, and that includes the golfers in your party! Both the Los Delfines Resort and the Tango Mar Resort sport 9-hole golf courses, and are mere minutes away from Tambor.

Walking & Hiking

Costa Rica is a hikers paradise! And Tambor does not disappoint. If walking on the beach is your passion, begin at the pier on the south end of Tambor and continue to the very tip of the bay. The trail mixes up your terrain between the beach and a path behind the rocks. Once you reach your final destination, Cocalitos Beach (approximately 4km), prepare to have your breath taken away. The rushing waters of the El Chorro waterfall and a large pool at the base– perfect for a quick dip – is the sort of experience fantasies are made of.

If you choose to head north of Tambor, just remember to wait for the tide to go out, otherwise you’ll find yourself wading through the water of the Panica River. That being said, it’s a beautiful walk up the river. The scenery is fairytale-like, with no shortage of birds living along the jungle river.

If you’d prefer to give your own legs a break, why not try the 4-legged variety? Taking a guided tour on horseback is an extremely popular way to explore what the entire Tambor region has to offer. Head up into the hills and see if you can spot all of your favorite beaches below!

Snorkeling & Diving

A short boat ride from Tambor will bring you to the Tortuga Islands. If you close your eyes and imagine a tropical paradise, the Tortuga Islands are no doubt what you imagine! Pristine white sand, coconut palms swaying against the blue skies and exotic fish just waiting to be seen through your mask, you’re not dreaming! You won’t find a better location for diving and snorkeling in all of the southern Nicoya Peninsula, and the Tortuga Islands do not disappoint. A myriad of underwater plant life and vibrant-colored fish await your viewing pleasure. If the underwater scene isn’t for you, take a trek up to one of the points and enjoy the view. Of course, sipping fresh coconut water and chilling on the beach is always an option as well!

All in all, there is no shortage of activities to keep your mind, body and soul busy and content during your visit in Tambor on the southern Nicoya Peninsula.

We’re taught from an early age to accept that we can’t have everything we want… that we have to share or compromise. Thankfully, now that you’re an adult, and you’re considering a property purchase abroad, these ‘rules’ don’t apply.
All your ducks are in a row… you bought a corner lot, with spectacular ocean views in a private community.
We frequently refer to Costa Rica’s southern Nicoya Peninsula as a ‘hidden gem’. Naturally, those already owning and/or living in this tropical oasis would prefer it stays that way…
